New Gallery Posted: "Curly Colette"

When there's little to do in the way of photos, I always think it's nice to snap photos of this little one of ours. Then again, I suppose it really doesn't matter the time. I just make it less of a priority when I've got other photos to edit... We've got some fun shoots coming up though that I'm very much looking forward to, so it's nice to get in a good Colette set before we get busy, busy, busy. Well, perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit, but still... now that the weather's getting warmer, I'm looking forward to the shoots we'll get to do and the people we'll get to meet or work with again even. In the meantime, here are some of my favorite photos from this most recent set for you to enjoy. You may also view these and more in the "Curly Colette" gallery.

New Galleries Posted: "Rainy Day" and "Colette Exclusive"

As evidence that I really have been working very hard to get all of the many photos I have to edit done, here are a couple of sets that I just finished up this morning if only so I can move on to the next! The first of these sets is the last of the Mother's Day series, pictures of the three of us on a lovely, rainy day in the front yard of Eric's dad's house where we are living for right now. On that particular day, we discovered just how very wonderful it is sometimes to have a prop for photo shoots, something for the model to play with so they don't start to feel overly self-conscious. Although, that's not much of a problem for us so much any more since we put ourselves in front of the camera more often than we'd really like to.

The second set of photos is a series of photos of Colette right after we did the Rainy Day photos. She was just laying on the bed and looking up at me in such a way that I could not resist taking photos of her. And I did promise a long time ago that we would do a Colette Exclusive shoot! So, I've also put up those photos for everyone to see. But really, they're just yet another way for me to show off my beautiful daughter!

It's really hard to choose my favorites from both of these shoots, so here are just a few of my favorites from each set:

New Gallery Posted: Kiri Turns One!

My one and only niece Kiri turned one recently (on May 4th to be exact), so my mom, a.k.a. "Nana," had me do some pictures to mark the occasion. But, sheesh. When a kid is mobile, a kid is fucking mobile. Don't get me wrong with all my kid bashing lately. I love kids! For the most part. There are always, of course, some exceptions to the rule that generally involve a little bully of a boy picking on some other innocent child. We know they're out there. Eric and I observed one first hand at the park recently as we watched this little boy push his friend around on the playground. It's a good thing I didn't know the kid and that he wasn't picking on Colette. Because I would've been talking to his parents (if I could find them) in a heartbeat.

Anyway, I was talking about my adorable niece. Who bullies Colette on a regular basis actually. Pulling her hair and such. But it's different, I think, when you're only a year old. If this kind of behavior continues when she gets just a bit older, well, I'm just gonna have to teach Colette to stick up to it. Give her a little gumption. Although, I really don't think that will be necessary considering Colette is already very much her own person and won't put up with any bullying from anyone. Which also includes her parents.

We try.

As always, here are some of my favorite photos from this set, although I never cease to be surprised by what ones all y'all like most:

Tu es heureuse, maman?

For my last semester of French, I had to write a children's book entirely in French. I was allowed to come up with whatever kind of story I wanted to and whatever kind of illustrations as well. After reading several other stories in my class on the second to last day of classes, I think I might have made my story a bit too realistic. We're talking a story about me and Colette on a normal day in our lives versus selfish little mermaids, stubborn little princesses looking for their princes, curious dogs traveling in hot air balloons across the world, and cowboys with pet monkeys. Okay. I made that last one up, but still. Maybe I just don't have enough of an imagination anymore to come up with things like pink elephants and magical zebras who poop rainbow-colored candy, but I like to believe that the French story I came up with will speak, most of all, to children whose parents have to leave them every day in order to read stuff like this.

Granted, it's not everyday that I get to journey through magical worlds in which every child's dream comes true but not without an important lesson learned, but there are moments in my life when I start to question whether any of the shit I've been learning in school is any different from this kind of stuff. As if the University sensed my skepticism, I got an email from them recently reminding me of the reality I will face when I graduate next week. Needless to say, the University needed to remind me that a higher education doesn't necessarily guarantee me a better job. Well, shit, what did I go back to school for then?

Anyway, to offset any bitter snarkiness I might have included in this post, here are the pages from my extremely sentimental story. The pictures are nice anyway.
