Recent Work

I admit this is kind of a duplicate post of what I posted on my own blog just moments ago, but I thought you all might like to see what we've been up to lately (been about two months since our last post). Just click on any one of these sets to see more.

Also, sorry to those of you who so diligently (or not) follow our work on here. We have been on a much needed hiatus from client work, choosing to focus instead on the countless other photos we have been taking since the beginning of this year. It may be another two months before we post again... or not. :P

But, yes, thanks to those of you who have and who continue to follow us as we continue to develop our craft. It keeps us going (even despite the hiatus)!

New Gallery Posted: "Hubba Hubby"

Eric and I have long been planning on doing some Eric-exclusive portraits - he had agreed to my request after much poking and prodding only to have to wait several months for the portraits to actually happen. And even after all that wait, we still didn't do the portraits the way we had originally planned which was to do some very simple black and white headshots. I'm happy though to have gone the direction I did with these photos. Eric had liked the feeling of the last set of photos of Colette, so I tried to replicate that edit in an Eric-fashion. So, of course, I had to work in a texture - thank you, SkeletalMess, for the free textures! - along with my various overlays. It's just what I do...

I'm very much looking forward to the day I get to start framing various prints of Eric and Colette to hang up on our walls. Might be an odd assemblage considering I never seem to replicate any one particular edit - er, post-processing - but I think even so, the photos will mesh together well and make for some individuality to our color-happy walls. I'll maybe toss in a few of my own portraits to complete the collection...

Anyway, here are some of my favorite photos from this series. While I took the photos, I tried to think more abstractly. I tried to think - not that it was all that difficult - as someone in love with the person he/she was taking photos of who pays attention not only to the whole of that person but also to the little details. Here are the results which you can see more of in the "Hubba Hubby" gallery:

From the Archives: Pumpkin Patch / Corn Maze, Oct. 2009

On Saturday, we will be celebrating our daughter Colette's fourth birthday (amazing how fast children grow up!) by taking a trip to a local corn maze and pumpkin patch. Last year, we visited this same pumpkin patch / corn maze in Farmington and decided to make a yearly tradition of it. So, this year, we thought it would be fun to include with that tradition Colette's birthday celebration and invite friends and family to join us in one of the best activities for this time of year. Cheesy, sure, but that's what you can expect from a couple of sappy parents like us. As a demonstration of the great fun we will have though, I thought it would be nice for our "From the Archives" post today to post some pictures from our venture into the corn maze and pumpkin patch last year:

I'm very much looking forward to this year's visit. It should be a blast, and I can't wait to see what costumes people will be wearing!

From the Archives: Farmington Bay, September 2009

Every month, we receive an email from Photojojo highlighting some of the images we have shared on Flickr this same time of year for the previous year. So, I thought I would share some photos I was just recently reminded of through just such a Photojojo email that demonstrate some of the progress we have made since we first purchased our Nikon D90 just over a year ago now.

My editing techniques were quite a bit different back then. I wasn't as familiarized with Adobe Photoshop as I am now and restricted myself to mostly messing with the saturation and exposure levels. We took pictures of the scenery around us and not of the many people we have more recently gotten to meet as we've been getting our business up-and-going. But, sometimes I think that maybe the more simple techniques I had back then would serve me well now. It's nice to simplify things a bit, especially when you have as many options as you do in a program like Adobe Photoshop.

Still though, we have learned quite a bit over time about both the editing process and our equipment itself. Delivering the kind of photography we want to doesn't seem as daunting a task as it did back then. Every day, we get closer and closer to realizing the full potential of our camera. And, every day, we get closer and closer to being able to recreate the way we see the world.

(Man, my writing sucks today...)
