Oh, also...

These are the posts from our old page AwenBlog.com and Eric's old blog Snyder Cider.
Anything posted from 2010 to 2008 is an AwenBlog.com post and anything posted from 2006 to 2001 is a Snyder Cider post.

(BEWARE!!! ADOLESCENT ANGST/TYPOS/GRAMMAR AND SPELLING VIOLATIONS ABOUND! A lot of the old stuff is kind of embarrassing and really doesn't reflect the people we have become. We have grown up a great deal over the years. These posts are really here just for fun/archival purposes.)

Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango

So, its 1998, and I'm 17 or so. A budding young nerd trying to find his niche in the video game world. Adventure games like Myst and The 7th Guest were what really interested me. Games that came with a good story, but most of all atmosphere.

If a game has atmosphere its a safe bet that I'll enjoy it. Hell, I don't care if its "Barbie's Pony Grooming RPG Alpha DX 2" so long as it takes me someplace else.

So it is no suprise that when I caught sight of Grim Fandango that my "load" had figuratively "blown".

Grim Fandango was spearheaded by Tim Schafer, Mr. Schafer(for those who don't know) has had his hands many fine games such as The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Psychonauts.

Anyhoo... Grim Fandango had some fucking atmosphere, the kind that sticks to you long after playing. Not only this but the story of the game was quite good. And to complete the trifecta, it was about a skeleton living in the land of the dead on the day of the dead.

A GAME STARRING A SKELETON IN THE LAND OF THE DEAD ON THE DAY OF THE DEAD!

I have this thing about skeletons you see. Skeletons and bones. Cant seem to get enough of them. But thats another post all together(file under unhealthy obsession).

This game has touched me so that Ive played it through nearly once or twice a year for as long as Ive owned a computer able to run it. The music kicks ass, the art direction kicks ass, the voice acting kicks ass, and so on with the ass kicking.

If I were forced to pick a favorite game, or something to recommend to friends, this would be it.

Sadly, I don't think you can buy it from LucasArts(they made it) anymore seeing as how they decided to focus only on star wars game after shitty fucking star wars game, and give up of there impressive legacy of awesome adventure games.

But I think you can still get it from Amazon.

Seek it out. Play it.

P.S. Here is the trailer.
